The Story
A substantial Victorian pine joiner's tool chest, dating to the second half of the nineteenth century. Built on a generous scale, the chest is constructed with a moulded, panelled lid enclosing the upper rim and resting on a robust rectangular carcase. The base terminates in a heavy stepped plinth moulding designed to withstand workshop damp and transit.
Each flank retains an inset flush brass carrying handle, practical hardware designed to prevent snagging during transport. The pine surfaces show honest workshop history, retaining remnants of an old stained finish alongside deep patination, tool dings, and dry graining across the top boards. Simple, honest joinery characteristic of utilitarian trade cabinetry of the period.
