The Story
A French club chair with the scalloped moustache back, its leather worn to the colour of good tobacco. Sold as found; some will restore it, others will not dare.
Constructed on a stout beechwood frame, the chair displays the classic mid-century French club profile: broad roll-over arms, piped seams, and a generous sprung seat cushion sitting low over square block feet. Decades of service have burnished the hide, yielding an extraordinary map of creases, rub, and dry patination across the surfaces where hands and shoulders have rested.
The integrity of the frame remains sound, offering the deep, welcoming sit typical of the genre. While the hide shows areas of genuine distress—notably along the front welt and tops of the arms—it retains the unrepeatable character that only authentic, untreated aging can confer.
