The Story
Constructed in the closing decades of the nineteenth century, this compact hanging display cabinet is framed in stained pine. It features a robustly moulded, stepped cornice over a pair of glazed panel doors, each divided into three lights with an arched top rail. The doors retain their modest iron and brass drop-ring hardware alongside a central key escutcheon.
The interior is fitted with two fixed shelves, painted in a pale ochre ground designed to reflect light and highlight curiosities or specimens within. Intended either to sit atop a companion credenza or hang directly from a wall, the piece represents honest provincial joinery, relying on clean architectural proportions rather than applied ornament.
