The Story
An imposing standing corner cupboard executed in the early Georgian architectural manner, constructed from solid softwood, likely Scots pine. Built on a triangular footprint to fit the angle of a room, the piece features an open upper alcove framed by a broad outer border carved with egg-and-dart moulding.
The upper section is conceived as an architectural niche, anchored by a round arch with an exaggerated stepped keystone and carved foliate spandrels, resting upon fluted pilasters with moulded caps. Within the cove-headed barrel interior are three fixed shelves with decoratively shaped, serpentine fronts.
The lower section comprises a twin-door cupboard with panelled fronts flanked by continued moulding. Preserved in a dry, stripped state, the timber displays natural weathering, light separations to the interior boarding, and evidence of historic architectural installation.
