The Story
A carved salon armchair in the Rococo Revival taste, finished in ebonised paint and re-covered in a deliberately eccentric manner. The shaped cresting rail and downswept padded arm supports are carved with foliate and shell motifs, leading down to shaped aprons and cabriole forelegs terminating in scrolled feet.\n\nThe frame has been fitted with contemporary upholstery comprising a printed fabric back panel depicting an anthropomorphic feline monarch dressed in ermine and regalia, after neoclassical coronation portraiture. The seat is sprung and covered in a pale sueded textile bordered by woven gimp. A curious pastiche uniting mid-century reproduction carving with modern decorative whimsy.
