The Story
A mid-20th-century cast metal sporting figure, modelled as an athlete in exultant motion, arms raised aloft in victory. Cast in white metal—likely spelter or pot metal—with a patinated silvered finish, the figure displays textured rendering to the jersey, trimmed shorts, and laced boots, characteristic of athletic attire from the 1940s and 1950s.
The sculpture rests upon an integral domed base, secured by a central bolt to a square stepped plinth faced in walnut veneer with blackened bevelled edges. Unmarked and devoid of any engraved presentation plate, it represents an archetype of mid-century commercial trophy craft, designed for interscholastic or club competition honours. The piece retains an appealing graphic presence, combining the dynamic diagonal posture of the figure with the restrained geometry of the wooden mount.
