The Story
A natural history shoulder mount of a zebra (likely Burchell's zebra, Equus quagga burchellii), modelled with the head turned lightly to sinister. The hide displays bold, clean striping transitioning from deep chocolate-brown to cream along the flanks and neck, complete with an erect mane and taxidermic glass eyes.
Mounted over a sculptured form, the musculature around the jaw and throat is crisply defined, retaining the characteristic broad muzzle and rounded ears. Modern game mounts of this manner were prepared for sporting trophies and natural history display, executed with stable internal mannequins that preserve the natural anatomical contouring without the shrinkage common to earlier Victorian examples.
