The Story
A mid-century table lamp fashioned from a quadrangular baluster vase of yellow-ground porcelain. The vessel features gently softened canted corners, tapering subtly towards a rounded shoulder and short waisted neck. Painted in the famille rose tradition, the glossy lemon-yellow field is decorated with dispersed sprigs of polychrome blossoms and trailing foliage executed in soft overglaze enamels.
The vase is mounted upon a moulded ebonised footed plinth, shaped to follow the square section of the body, and is fitted at the neck with turned brass mounts supporting a single harp and socket. Crowned with a classic tapered pleated shade, the lamp serves as a cheerful mid-century interpretation of classic Qing export wares, well-suited to bedside or console display.
