The Story
A late nineteenth- or early twentieth-century display pedestal, constructed from stained hardwood. The design follows classical architectural proportions, featuring a square flat top resting above a generously cyma-moulded capital.
The central shaft tapers gently toward the base, composed of four joined flat panels. The plinth terminates in a multi-stepped moulded foot, providing a stable foundation suitable for supporting a portrait bust, bronze, or specimen marble. The timber retains a dark, uniform stain with modest honest wear from handling at the perimeter edges.
