The Story
An contemporary plaster study of a human right foot, cast in the round from nature after the classic original, terminating obliquely above the ankle. The form is mounted upon an integral low plinth. The musculature, extensor tendons, and skin folds across the tarsus and metatarsus are observed with rigorous anatomical fidelity, capturing the distinct arch and joint articulation typical of nineteenth-century pedagogical models.
Cast in plaster of Paris, the piece exhibits the characteristic matte white surface of workshop casts, now softened by age. The surface bears an accumulation of ambient studio dust, fine abrasions, and gentle handling wear, highlighting the recessed details of the toes and nails. Such casts were standard equipment across European art academies and ateliers, produced in series by specialist formatore for life-drawing and anatomical instruction.
