The Story
A bespoke demilune console table executed in the Neoclassical taste, combining classic Louis XVI revival form with evocative Romantic-period symbolism. The shaped serpentine-fronted top rests over a shaped frieze painted in celestial cerulean blue, dotted with gilded stars and raised circular studs. At the centre of the frieze, a gilt-framed oval medallion encloses a finely rendered lover's eye miniature, flanked by delicate gilded sunburst rays.\n\nThe apron is supported by three slender turned and tapering legs, each deeply fluted and finished in distressed parcel gilt over turned collars and elongated peg feet. While recalling late eighteenth-century Swedish and Italian painted furnishings, the piece is a decorative twentieth-century confection designed for intimate entryways or boudoir settings.
