The Story
A monumental architectural fragment in the form of an angel or avian wing, dating to the turn of the twentieth century. The piece is carved in relief with layered, naturalistic plumage, grading from small imbricated covert feathers along the top edge into long, curved flight feathers with defined central shafts.\n\nEvidently salvaged from a larger figural sculpture, monument, or ecclesiastical relief, the wing displays characteristic breaks at the joint and perimeter tips. The stone surface is extensively weathered, bearing areas of dark patination, exposure to the elements, and pale calcification across the recesses. Now isolated as a sculptural object, it presents a stark, architectural profile when mounted against a plain ground.
