The Story
A sculptural armchair carved from solid hardwood, conceived in the form of a stylised raptor. The curved back and flanking armrests are formed by the sweeping wings and breast of an eagle, painstakingly worked in relief with repeating imbricated plumage that gives way to broader flight feathers along the flanks. The head of the bird curves sharply forward to form a distinctive crested terminal, hollowed beneath the nape to provide an integrated grip.
The scooped seat transitions directly into the supporting structure below, which takes the form of a crouching anthropomorphic figure wearing fringed or corded cuffs, rendered in a regional folk idiom. The piece is carved from substantial timber sections, finished with a warm, natural wax polish that accentuates the grain. Striking in silhouette, it bridges the boundary between functional seating and large-scale studio sculpture.
