The Story
A sculptural leather footstool modelled in the form of a rhinoceros, executed in the distinctive manner popularised by Dimitri Omersa and retailed through Liberty & Co. Constructed from thick hide panels stitched over a firm internal frame and dense stuffing, the piece captures the heavy plates and folds of rhinoceros hide through deliberate seam placement and tailored tailoring.
The leather displays a warm, patinated finish with natural variation in tone, crazing, and light creasing accumulated from handling. The exaggerated front horn, rounded ears, and stout columnar legs reflect the robust construction characteristic of mid-century English leather animal figures, serving as an eccentric fireside stool or decorative curiosity.
