The Story
A large-scale sculptural mount of a rhinoceros head, modelled in the manner of traditional big-game trophies but constructed in painted fiberglass or other modern composite. The beast is depicted with a dramatically exaggerated anterior horn curving upward, a shorter posterior horn behind it, and deeply creased, naturalistic folds around the muzzle, nostrils and eyes.
The piece is mounted upon a shaped timber backboard designed for wall suspension. Finished overall in a matte, variegated grey wash that mimics hide, the work was likely produced as a display prop for a film or television production.during the latter half of the twentieth century. It offers the architectural scale of an armorial trophy without the controversy of an authentic biological specimens, executed with theatrical precision.
