The Story
A late Victorian red deer (*Cervus elaphus*) frontlet, mounted upon a shaped oak shield. The skull plate retains its substantial pair of beam-forward antlers, showing good pearling and natural weathering.
The upper surface of the bone frontlet bears bold, black painted stencilling recording its taking on 28 August 1888, with estate references including 'Haddo House'. Such inscribed mounts were standard practice across Scottish sporting estates of the late nineteenth century, functioning as both decorative lodge trophies and precise field records. The shaped backboard is cut from solid English or Scottish oak, with a chamfered perimeter and darkened finish.
