The Story
A pair of tall ecclesiastical or salon floor candelabra standards, cast in metal with parcel-gilt and dark patinated finishes, dating from the turn of the twentieth century.
Each standard is composed of a series of cast sections assembled on a central iron rod. The upper dished drip pan rests above a collar of cast acanthus leafage, which surmounts a slender, reeded and fluted columnar stem. A stepped central knop divides the upper column from the lower turned shaft, terminating in a weighted, spreading circular base with reeded moulded borders.
The finish retains remnants of oil gilding or lacquer across the fluting and capital details, contrasting with the naturally oxidised, dark bronze-like patina of the remaining metalwork. Proportionally suited for pricket candles or subtle modern lamp conversion.
