The Story
A full-shoulder taxidermy mount of a European wild boar (Sus scrofa), presented head-on with a slight quarter-turn and agape jaws. The mount features coarse, dark brown and grizzled bristles across the crown and snout, terminating in a bristled neck fringe. The mouth is finished with painted composition gums and tongue, fitted with prominent lower tusks (canines) and upper whetters, along with dark glass eyes set deep into the orbital sockets.
The head is secured to a substantial oval backboard of dark-stained oak with a bevelled edge, typical of Continental sporting trophies from the mid-20th century. An indistinct taxidermist or huntsman's inscription is hand-painted in pale script to the lower right of the shield. Mounted taxidermy of this nature served as traditional game trophies for hunting lodges and country hall interiors across France, Germany, and the Low Countries.
