The Story
A life-size, realistic sculptural bust of a walrus and finished with naturalistic detailing. Likely fabricated as an educational mount, museum display model, or high-end theatrical prop, the piece captures the distinctive anatomy of Odobenus rosmarus with considerable fidelity, but is a reproduction piece that contains no parts of real specimen.
The heavy, folded hide is cast with a wrinkled, nodular texture and painted in mottled terracotta and earth tones. The muzzle is set with dense, stiff bristles simulating the animal’s vibrissae, framed by a pair of substantial downward-curving tusks, rendered here in cast composite. The head is positioned looking slightly upward, presenting an imposing silhouette from above. The whole is mounted to a low wooden base, suited for floor or low plinth display.
