The Story

A vintage full zebra pelt rug, likely Burchell's zebra (Equus quagga), prepared in the traditional manner as a floor or wall trophy. The hide retains its natural mane and distinctive patterning, demonstrating characteristic broad striping across the flanks with shadow striping towards the haunches.

The pelt is professionally dressed and mounted to a dark felt backing, which extends slightly beyond the edge of the hide to provide structure and edge protection. The head is dressed flat, preserving the ears and muzzle contour, while the central dorsal ridge displays the short, erect mane.

Produced during the mid-20th century, such pieces were staple furnishings of traditional country houses and safari-inspired interiors. The hide shows good preservation with supple skin and intact hair coverage throughout.
