SAMPLE dispatch. Every piece in this house was once somebody's spare. The spare, as any second son will tell you, has the more interesting life.1
He is sent abroad, and comes home with things. A pair of urns from a dealer near the Spanish Steps; a garniture that went out to Canton as silver and came back as porcelain.
The heir inherits the house. The spare inherits the stories.

The library
